Opodo
Ignacio Martos was appointed chief executive officer of Opodo in December 2006 and is based in Opodo’s London office.
Opodo is one of Europe’s leading online travel agencies, operating in nine markets across the continent. In 2007 Opodo had EUR 1.3 billion in gross sales and reached its first net profit of EUR6.6 million.
Before joining Opodo, Ignacio started Rumbo in 2000 and spent the next seven years as CEO at the online travel agency, which is a market leader in Spain and Latin America. Under his stewardship Rumbo fast became one of the Spanish online travel industry’s big success stories and reached profitability in 2004.
In 1988 he entered the tourism industry with Barceló, one of the leading tourism companies in Spain, where he was deputy managing director to 2000, before joining Rumbo.
Before working in the Tourism industry, he worked in the textile industry as export director of Nerpel for South America. From here Ignacio moved to Mayoral, a Spanish clothing manufacturer, where he was export director for two years
Ignacio studied law at the University of Seville and gained an MBA at IESE Business School in Barcelona. Aged 49 , he and was born in Cordoba, Spain and is married with three children.
