Marko Ahtisaari is chief executive officer and co-founder of Dopplr, the online service for smarter travel. Based on London’s Silicon Roundabout and the Helsinki seaside, the international team behind Dopplr shares a passion for design, social technologies and travel.
The idea of Dopplr is that the collective travel knowledge of the world's most frequent smart travellers can inform and improve the travel experience of all. Dopplr is backed by a premier international group of investors including Martin Varsavsky, Esther Dyson, Thomas Glocer, Lars Hinrichs, Joichi Ito, Reid Hoffman, Tyler Brûlé, and Saul Klein.
Prior to Dopplr, Marko was director of Design Strategy at Nokia, a world leader in mobile communications, and head of Brand & Design at Blyk, the free mobile service for young people funded by advertising.
Marko serves on the board of directors of F-Secure Corporation and Artek oy ab, and is an advisor to FON, the largest WiFi community in the world. He has also served on the jury of the international Prix Ars Electronica.
Marko was born in Finland and raised on three continents in Helsinki, Dar es Salaam and New York. He holds a BA degree summa cum laude in Economics and Philosophy and a MA degree in Philosophy from Columbia University in the City of New York. During his years in New York Marko had a parallel professional life in music as a bassist and composer. In the in-between moments he composes ambient music for private spaces and occasionally sings arias. To reboot, Marko practices ice hole swimming.
