Uber and Airbnb are just the latest in a line of companies that started as a crazy idea, but quickly trampled all over an entire industry. And just last week Ford announced that they will have a cheap driverless car in 5 years.
These changes are dazzlingly exciting for consumers of leisure travel, but the impact of automation on businesses looks likely to be even greater. When technology threatens to destroy jobs at such a fast pace, what skills should the travel industry be hiring ?
Tour operators usually favour staff based on their travel and not their technology skills, but does that now need a re-think ?
Should you hire people already armed with the right skills, or people who have a flexible approach?
Many expensive technical skills may be overtaken by automation, so is creativity, which software can’t replace, a better attribute ?
This session, chaired by Tigerbay MD Carl Morgan, and including travel technology industry experts, will discuss how technology affects the resource requirements within traditional travel businesses and how automation will impact on career choices of future generations.
Go Global Faster
Going global is a daunting prospect. Not only is there a huge job ahead localising content for each language market, you also need to know cultural sensitivities, expectations and preferences. Add to that the rise of personal devices for consuming travel content and you must now consider not just the written language but the actual relevancy of the information delivered to an individual. There is simply no way on earth to go global using the traditional processes of content creation and translation in the Millennial world, let alone do it with the necessary speed. The issue? There are too few human copywriters and translators - and they take time to do their work. In this workshop I’ll show you how technology can now replace many slow, human-centric processes, speeding time to market and reducing costs along the way. I’ll also pull back the curtain on a few future-facing technologies that will mean not just ‘going global faster’, but going global instantly.

Conversion rates in travel are notoriously low, usually in the low single figures, so much is to be gained from increasing conversion performance rather than focussing on further customer acquisition, particularly in a world of spiralling marketing costs.
This workshop by Cloud IQ will delve into the science of how a combination of machine learning, computational power, and artificial intelligence enabled conversion rate optimisation automation can achieve significant results at low cost.
