Uber and Airbnb are just the latest in a line of companies that started as a crazy idea, but quickly trampled all over an entire industry. And just last week Ford announced that they will have a cheap driverless car in 5 years.
These changes are dazzlingly exciting for consumers of leisure travel, but the impact of automation on businesses looks likely to be even greater. When technology threatens to destroy jobs at such a fast pace, what skills should the travel industry be hiring ?
Tour operators usually favour staff based on their travel and not their technology skills, but does that now need a re-think ?
Should you hire people already armed with the right skills, or people who have a flexible approach?
Many expensive technical skills may be overtaken by automation, so is creativity, which software can’t replace, a better attribute ?

Go Global Faster
Going global can be a daunting prospect. Not only is it a significant challenge to localise content for each language market, but you also need to accommodate cultural sensitivities, expectations and preferences. As increasingly more travel content is consumed on personal devices, you must now consider not just the language of the information, but also its relevancy for the individual. There is simply no way to go global today using the traditional processes of content creation and translation, let alone do it with the necessary speed. In this workshop you’ll hear how technology can replace many labour-intensive processes, hence accelerating time to market and reducing costs. You will also learn about a few emerging technologies that will ultimately make it possible to not just ‘go global faster’ but actually go global instantly.
